George St. Pierre Defeats Matt Hughes!

George St. PierreGeorge St. Pierre has defeated Matt Hughes in UFC 65! Matt Hughes was undefeated in nearly 5 years! What an amazing fight!!!  After nailing Matt over and over with low kicks, knocking him out once in the first round (Matt was saved by the bell), George completely dominated Matt and delivered a HUGE high kick to the head.  Kyokushin at its best!  Way to go George St. Pierre ("Rush")!

St. Pierre was relentless with his low kicks followed by jabs.  This left Hughes puzzled at times as he tried to find an opening to try and take the fight to the ground for his ground and pound game.  At the one minute mark, Hughes was on his heels with his impressive standup fight.  The low kicks kept coming and eventually by accident a few got a little close for comfort to Hughes, and Hughes knelt down, although I'm sure they were close, the replay seemed to show they were not that close and it might have been a tactic to get George to stop throwing the low kicks.

George St. Pierre kept his mental focus and went right back to the legs. A Hughes takedown attempt was easily blocked, and tuned into flying knees to the head.  With under 1:20 to go, St. Pierre took Matt to the floor!  He landed some impressive strikes before standing and scoring with yet another knee.  Hughes looked to get back into the scoring column by committing to a takedown, but St. Pierre brushed him off and finished with a right hand that dropped the champion just before the bell intervened.

Hughes seemed to start the second round with a smile of sorts, almost to say, "I'm totally fine, what else you got!".  Well, with 3:45 left, St. Pierre's low kicks paid off!  He had the champ thinking another low kick was coming, and instead landed a high left kick that put Hughes on the mat again and seemingly dazed! No bell would come to save the longtime champion, as George St. Pierre would become the new king of the UFC 1:25 of the second round!

Don't Miss UFC 65: Bad Intentions

Go Kyokushin!

George "Rush" St. Pierre will finally get his chance to earn his first UFC title, fighting against Matt Hughes.  Matt Hughes is one tough guy, and probably the best fighter to date to fight in the UFC.  However, that will change today when George "Rush" St. Pierre defeats Matt Hughes.  UFC aires tonight at 7pm CST.  If you have never seen St. Pierre fight before, this guy is one of the fastest, high flying fighters to come in a long time, possibly ever.  George St. Pierre trained in Kyokushin Karate his entire life after being threatened by bullies in school.  When his Kyokushin teacher passed away and he began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  “I was very sad...” Georges St Pierre trained Kyokushin Karate from the age of six to the age of sixteen years old, right up until his Karate master of ten years, Jean Couture, died from Lung Cancer. “When my Kyokushin Karate teacher died I wanted to stop Martial Arts.”.  George still wears the "Kanku" Kyokushin symbol to the ring on his headband.

As for the pre battle jabs at each other, George has been very respectful and not said anything other than direct critics of Matt.  Matt on the other hand has blasted Canada and Canadians in general, as well as the French.

From the Globe and Mail

"You've done your bit. Well I'm from America and I think we're fighters, as a country. Look where we're at, we're all over. That's what I was talking about." said Matt Hughes

So Canadians aren't fighters, Hughes was then asked.

"I don't see you guys venturing out trying to help the world out, we'll say that," he responded.

UFC president Dana White chimed in: "Put that in the headline, Matt Hughes hates Canadians. Pay-per-view Saturday night," said White.

Hughes kept going.

"Some of you guys definitely like to twist your words around, we'll see if that's what you do. But I've got no problem with Canada. I like Canada, as my web site goes I've got a lot of people in Canada who like me, ordering this, ordering that or just showing their support."

"That just ended, that's over." said White to laughs.

St. Pierre then entered the fray.

"If Matt thinks there is no warrior in Canada, he's going to be in a war Saturday night, I can tell you that right now."

Other fights taking place tonight..

Tim Sylvia Vs. Jeff Monson

I would love to see Jeff Monson win this fight!  Tim Sylvia has had the belt far to long, as shows off his belt at every event that he can.  Not my style, therefore I would have to hope that Jeff Monson can win.  Jeff is the better fighter for sure.  However Tim Sylvia is an entire foot taller, and one crushing leg kick to the already short Jeff Monson, would end the fight early.  If Jeff Monson can move in quickly and close the gap, you will see Jeff Monson's hand raised in victory!  Tim Sylvia should win however with his height advantage, but I think it's all up to Jeff.

Brandon Vera Vs. Frank Mir

Frank Mir simply still looks far too out of shape to be able to pull off a win tonight.  Brandon "The Truth" Vera is 7 - 0 and some of his previous fights building up to tonight look to paint a picture of another loss for Frank Mir.

Before Developers Developers Developers...

Before Steve Ballmer made himself famous for the "Developers Developers Developers Developers" antics on stage, there was the launch of Windows from Microsoft!  In this classic video from 1986 you get a glimpse the man in plaid, Steve Ballmer, selling to the world what would become the most wildly used operating system on the planet.

"It's just 99 dollars!  It's Windows from Microsoft!"  "And can you believe it! Reversi!"

Martial Arts Movies You Have to See

Ok so at first glance you might look at these movies and think, what do they have to do with technology?  Well besides the really cheese special effects and in some cases really bad acting, there used to be a great message in Martial Arts movies and always gives you a great feeling of "Yes I can do it!".  After all, we could all use some motivation!

  1. The Last Dragon (1985)
My favorite martial arts movie of all time!  If you are being asked "Who is the master!!!!" This movie will have you answering "I AM!!!" Leroy Green is the Master in this film! Great music I used to use to train with as well!
  2. Only The Strong (1993)
This movie started a phenomena in North America as it introduced the Brazilian art of Capoeria to us all, as well as Mark Dacascos!
  3. Best of the Best (1989)
A team from the United States are going to compete in the world finals in karate. The team consists of fighters from all nations, can they overcome their rivalry and work together to win ? Ohhh Ya!  This movie features Eric Roberts and Phillip Rhee!
  4. The Karate Kid (1984)
One of the most famous Karate movies around, The Karate Kid was a phenomena.  Although full of cheese, this movie has to be on the list as one of the best Karate films of all time! "You're the best around!  Nothing's going to ever keep you down"
  5. No Retreat, No Surrender (Karate Tiger)
This was the movie that made non other than Jean-Claude Van Dam a superstar!  "No Retreat!  No Surrender!"
  6. Fists of Fury / The Big Boss
This is a great film by Bruce Lee!  Hundred's of movies have copied its plot and style since.
  7. Fist of Legend
The movie that made Jet Lee popular, and by far his best movie!
  8. Showdown in Little Tokyo
This movie featured two great artists, Dolph Lundgren (Kyokushin Karate) and Brandon Lee as they protect their city!
  9. Enter the Dragon
Wildly accepted as the best Martial Arts film of all time.  Bruce Lee was just amazing and inspirational in this movie!
  10. Drunken Master
This movie put Jackie Chan on the Map!!!

  • Windows Media Player 11 Released

The final version of Windows Media Player 11 was released today!  The latest version in the long line of Microsoft Media Player technologies sports an exciting new look that has to be seen to be appreciated.  The new organization features available in this version are comparable to iTunes, and in some cases better. Album art downloading has also been massively improved!

Windows Media Player 11 was designed to be used with MTV's URGE, an online digital music service.  It is also compatible with portable players that use Microsoft's PlayForSure Digital Rights Management security.

A feature I really enjoy is the ability to use audio fingerprinting technology to figure out what song your are actually loading.  I personally have a lot of CD's I have burned over the years.  Every time I want to import an old CD, I used to have to rename the song, add description's, title information, album, artist, etc.  With this new technology, all this is entered for me even if the track does not carry that information.

One downside to the new Media Player comes from Microsoft's competing device and service, the Microsoft ZUNE device and the Microsoft ZUNE Marketplace.  It just seems odd that I will have to use Media Player 11, and then use Microsoft ZUNE Marketplace for my ZUNE Player.  However, I guess this truly does bring "options" to the consumer.

Overall I like the new Media Player as it makes it much easier to navigate my music, audio books, and videos.  The look is very fresh and exciting, and I love the new ripping options as well as exporting options I have.

Get Windows Media Player 11 today!
